Not Shaken: Day Thirty-One

Andrew Hargett

Bio:

So a little about me, as ya know I’m a big Longhorn fan -born and raised in Texas, the

majority of my life in Austin. Five years ago Candice and I came down as part of the launch

team to Kick off this amazing church. Not enough words to describe what a journey it’s been,

and to top it off, I’ve had the privilege to server on the Elder team too! Best job, being Harleigh’s

Dad!

Passage: I Peter 5:5-6

Devotional:

“God opposed the proud and give grace to the humble” - Proverbs 3:34

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

So, just what is the point that Peter is trying to make? It’s rather simple, for us to be humble

people! But what does it mean to be humble? It really means to NOT be lot of the things that

our society tells us to be! We look all and it seems that everyone is focused on themselves. We

live in a world obsessed with drawing attention to ourselves where all the glory is about us! We

are very selfish people who want all the attention! But when we’re on center stage where is our

focus, on the Lord, or on us? When we want the attention who is glorified? Jesus or ourselves?

It’s easy to live a prideful and selfish life, I’m guilty of doing this without even trying! So much

of life teaches us to focus on ourselves. Yet we have the standard set right in front of us, Jesus

who reigned in heaven as “king of kings’ and ruled over the universe while commanding the

angles! Left all of that and “humbled himself” to live among sinful men in order to die a criminals

death, and innocent and sin-less savior, so we could know His love, forgiveness and power

working in our life! It doesn’t get any more humble than that!

So, how are you going to be humble yourself before the Lord?

Discussion Questions:

  1. What does humility look like in my life?
  2. How can I be humble this week?
  3. What do you think it means to be “lifted up by the Lord”
  4. Who would you friends say you are glorifying with your life right now? Yourself or Jesus?
